Salvador Nasralla: Honduras Must Welcome US Trade, Not Chinese Communists, by Paz Gómez

Presidential Candidate Backs Foreign Investment, Rule of Law, Tourism for Development

The increase in Honduran emigration during President Xiomara Castro’s administration has highlighted the failure of her socialist policies. While the exodus grows, opportunism and clientelism remain prevalent among the emerging political class.

Salvador Nasralla, when serving as the ranking vice-president of Honduras, witnessed this firsthand after taking office in 2022. Arguing that he got blindsided and had no political influence to perform his duties within the coalition deal, he resigned and announced his presidential candidacy with the Liberal Party. He remains a prominent public figure and contends he is the opposition candidate with the strongest chance of defeating the ruling Libre party.

In this exclusive interview with the Impunity Observer, Nasralla—a former television host and two-time presidential candidate—examines the major challenges currently facing Honduras. He also addresses the risks Honduras faces due to the recent strengthening of ties with China and signs of possible manipulation in the upcoming elections.
